The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has made updates to: The SFC licence application now requires food businesses to indicate if they conduct licensable activities on fresh speciality mushrooms and supplemented beverages. In addition to these 2 new classifications, the SFC licence application also requires food businesses to indicate if they conduct licensable activities on fresh berries, fresh leafy greens and frozen berries. Voluntary “Product of USA” labelling final rule The Market Access Secretariat (MAS) at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada would like to inform you that the United States Department of Agriculture – Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) will host two webinars on the Voluntary Labeling of FSIS-Regulated products with U.S.-Origin Claims on the following date and time: The Trade Commissioner believes that the global success of Canadian business women and exporters from diverse backgrounds is crucial for driving our economy forward, which in turn benefits all Canadians. In 2019, Second Harvest released the first national estimate of food loss and waste (FLW) along the entire value chain. On the study’s five-year anniversary, Second Harvest has engaged Value Chain Management International (VCMI) to examine changes that have occurred in FLW since 2019 and the reasons for such changes. This important study will: 1) Benchmark Canadian FLW against estimates published in 2019, and 2) Quantify the GHG emissions and water footprint associated with FLW.
WorkSafeBC is holding a virtual public hearing on proposed amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation. The virtual public hearing will be streamed live on May 14, 2024, in two sessions. The first will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second from 3 to 5 p.m. This year’s schedule of compliance initiatives to protect workers’ rights under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and increase employers’ awareness of their responsibilities is now available. The industrial sector focus will be on material handling. New Brunswick wants to inform you about a change to accounting standards that affect all workers’ compensation boards across Canada. As of January 1, 2023, all insurance companies and workers’ compensation boards have transitioned to the new International Financial Reporting Standards for Insurance Contracts (IFRS 17). In 2024, the FDA issued a guidance for industry that describes how firms can voluntarily engage with the FDA before marketing food from genome-edited plants. The guidance reaffirms that the risk-based approach the FDA has taken for foods derived from new plant varieties also applies to foods from genome-edited plants. In addition, this guidance describes two processes through which they may voluntarily inform the FDA of the steps they have taken to ensure the safety of foods from their genome-edited plant varieties: voluntary premarket consultations and voluntary premarket meetings. These processes can help ease the pathway to market for foods from genome-edited plants, while keeping FDA safeguards in place. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has released 2023 injury and illness data collected under the agency’s new Improve Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses regulation published July 2023. To protect children from substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction (CMR), the European Commission has published its initiative to restrict them in childcare articles, such as products intended to help sleep, relaxation, hygiene or feeding of children. The Commission is expected to adopt the initiative during the last quarter of 2024. Authorities from Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Sweden explain how they are using the information from the six-month consultation to update their initial restriction proposal. Our committees for Risk Assessment and for Socio-Economic Analysis form their opinions based on the updated report. The registry of classification and labelling (CLH) intentions until outcome lists the intentions and proposals received by ECHA for a new or revised harmonised classification and labelling of a substance. The proposals are submitted by Member State competent authorities, manufacturers, importers or downstream users.
