A recent recall of hundreds of products from a US retailer exemplifies the need to maintain daily temperature logs. The recall was initiated as the products were stored outside of labelled temperature requirements. The list is impressively long and expensive. The New Substances (NS) program has taken steps to simplify and improve its online submission process. The NS program is planning to replace the Single Window-New Substances Notification (SW-NSN) form with the current Single Window Chemicals Management-General (SW CM-General) form. The New Substances (NS) program has updated the “New Substances Fees Calculation and Authorization” form on its website. Credit card payment information has been removed, allowing notifiers to submit the form via Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Single Window (SWIM). The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing $4 million to continue building a strong and competitive agri-food workforce.
A new occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation search tool provides work site parties with a more convenient way to access essential health and safety information. The regulatory review of General Regulation 91-191 closes August 19. FDA announced fiscal year 2023 user fee rates for importers approved to participate in the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program, and accreditation and certification bodies interested in participating in the Accredited Third-Party Certification Program. The user fee rates are authorized by the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act and allow the agency to assess and collect fees to cover the FDA’s cost of administering these programs. The FDA is announcing the availability of a level 2 guidance for industry titled, Changes to Disposable Manufacturing Materials: Questions and Answers. FDA receives questions about the limited availability of disposable manufacturing materials during periods of increased demand (e.g., public health emergencies or natural disasters). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published preliminary Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) data about chemical releases, chemical waste management, and pollution prevention activities that took place during 2021 at more than 20,000 federal and industrial facilities across the country. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will present a webinar for stakeholders on August 11, 2022, at 1pm EST, to discuss Food Facility Registration, Biennial Renewal (FFR), and obtaining an acceptable Unique Facility Identifier (UFI). Pursuant to the EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy program, this action proposes to list certain substances as acceptable subject to use conditions in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector for chillers–comfort cooling, residential dehumidifiers, non-residential dehumidifiers, residential and light commercial air conditioning and heat pumps, and a substance as acceptable subject to use conditions and narrowed used limits in very low temperature refrigeration. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) today announced a Final Rule that amends the Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) to harmonize U.S. laws with numerous international standards. The six chemicals selected for further discussion are toluene; methyl methacrylate; triphenyl phosphate; N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine; acrylic acid; and N-methyl pyrrolidone. Anyone who’s registered with us and has introduced industrial chemicals – or products containing industrial chemicals – during the 2021-22 registration year must submit an annual declaration. Transcription errors were identified in these reports and an audit was conducted of NTP technical reports on the toxicity of perfluoroalkyl sulfonates and carboxylates. The reports were revised and republished with an appendix that identifies the corrections. Please note that the final tables are available in the Chemical Effects in Biological Systems (CEBS) database. An assessment of regulatory needs report is now available for alpha-chloro aliphatic carboxylate derivatives.
