The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on shared interests in areas of standards, conformity assessment and accreditation. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has updated the personal use limits, which are now in effect and apply whether you’re travelling back with food, or even buying it online, from abroad!
Due to recent flood warnings for parts of B.C., WorkSafeBC is reminding employers of their responsibility to prepare for the risk of flooding — including planning for evacuation and rescue. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is offering financial incentives to small to medium sized businesses with 1 – 99 full-time employees, who are enrolled in its Health & Safety Excellence program. The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) requires that all food additives (as defined by section 201(s) (21 U.S.C. 321(s)) be approved by FDA before they are marketed. Submit written comments (including recommendations) on the collection of information by July 8, 2022. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is requesting responses to a number of questions in order to inform future guidance on the definitions of broker and bona fide agents. FMCSA is required to issue guidance by November 15, 2022, in response to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) s extending the comment period from May 23, 2022, until July 22, 2022. In addition, PHMSA plans to host a webinar to discuss the process and intent of this initiative with stakeholders on June 27, 2022. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is pleased to announce IARC Monographs Meeting 134. The meeting for Volume 134, Aspartame, Methyleugenol, and Isoeugenol, will be held from June 6th to June 13th, 2023. N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide (EC 213-103-2; CASRN 924-42-5) has been added to the Candidate List as it may cause cancer or genetic defects. It is mostly used in polymers and when manufacturing other chemicals, textiles, leather or fur. An assessment of regulatory needs report is now available for the chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons group.
